Grauballe man had his throat from ear to ear which is known to be made with several cuts which means he was murdered and that is known to be the cause of death. Back in those ages a lot of sacrifices were made, it is thought that Grauballe man was a sacrifice as his throat had not only been cut but his blood had been drained. The would only sacrifice the very best to please the gods, or he was either convicted of a very serious crime.
Archaeology and Science
Radioactive-Carbon tests carried out on the body dated Grauballe Man out around 55B.C making him roughly a contemporary of Julius Caesar. he was identified as being around 30 years old at the time of his death. Initial x-rays done on the body showed fractures on his skull and right tibia which were initially interpreted as contributing to his death. In 2000 further x-rays were conducted on the body, the new scans include much more detailed cross sections of Grauballe man then previous technology provided. The results reviled new evidence that he was missing four lumbar vertebrae, and the fracture in his skull that was originally thought to be a wound is now shown to be from pressure in the bog, or from the time of removal from the bog when a spectator accidentally stood on his head.
